Anything for a click

I have never liked Youtubers, instagramers, influencers and all this –ers people, that’s the truth. However, I have never felt scared until now. Scared of them or what they are capable of doing just to have more clicks. Probably you already know what fact make me say these words. If you don’t, know it, I’m talking about the incident with Logan Paul, one of the most famous youtubers in the USA showed a corpse in one of his vlogs.

As many other youtubers, Logan decided to make a vlog about his trip in Japan. One of his visits was the Aokigahara forest, also known as the “Suicide Forest”. Basically, he wore a stupid hat and he walked around the trees with his gang. Suddenly, the camera film his “shocking” face when he unexpectedly found a HANGED MAN. IN THE SUICIDE FOREST. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? He and his friends react laughing, but I'm not gonna judge their reaction (I mean, nobody knows how to react when seeing a dead body). The problem is that, instead of turning off the camera, cut the video or whatever, his friends has the GREAT idea of recording the body. He get close to it, he records the details, and, of course he serve it for his dear followers (which are mostly kids and teenagers by the way). The worst thing is that it was even promoted because of Youtube’s algorithm.

What really got me bad is that, since the beggining, he said he was about to release a “historical video” the “most real video he had ever made”. In the ending, he even said he was totally respectful with the victim and that was the reason why he covered his face (such a hero…so respectfull that he used his image for the picture of the video). Didn’t he realized how disrespectful is this for the victim? Didn’t he noticed that it's a horrible way of trivialize suicidal? What’s wrong with people? Internet makes easier to become famous, and I guess fame must “taste good”. But when you are highly known because of sharing your content, you have to be careful and respectful with the things you say or show. Seriously, this incident made me feel like if I were living in a Black Mirror’s episode. Things like this shows how insane and creepy can be the dark side of technology and social media.
